How to use the studio settings

To adjust the settings, go to the Settings tab in the sidebar on the right-hand side of the studio.

Buffer size

The buffer size is the processing time for the audio. A higher buffer size makes the audio playback more stable while introducing some latency. A lower buffer size introduces less latency but makes the audio playback less stable which might cause clicks, pops, and drop-outs.

Projects with many channels, instruments, audio files, and effects are heavier to process and are more likely to have artifacts. The more powerful your computer is, the fewer artifacts you will experience.

We recommend that you have a low buffer size when recording or playing because that’s when you notice the latency. In fact, you can set a separate buffer size for recording in Soundation. We recommend a high buffer size when you’re not recording or playing so you can use the studio to its full potential with accurately processed audio.

Move/copy automation data

When you move or copy a clip that has automation data, the automation data can either come with the clip or not. Here you can set how you want it to behave.

• Ask is default and will give you a pop-up where you can select what to do case by case
• Always will set the automation data to always move/copy with a clip
• Never will set the automation data to never move/copy with a clip, meaning it will stay in place no matter what

Open library

Check or uncheck this box to set if the studio Library should be open or not when you launch the studio.

Open virtual keyboard

Check or uncheck this box to set if the Virtual Keyboard should be open or not when you launch the studio.

Audio input

Here you select your audio input for recording from the available inputs of your computer. The default option will use the default input you have set in your computer’s sound settings.

Turbo mode

Turning Turbo mode on forces the studio to work at the highest possible capacity and CPU load to minimize glitching. Note that the Turbo Mode consumes more power so it’s not recommended to use it while working on battery only.

Show virtual keyboard

With Show virtual keyboard enabled, you will see the Virtual keyboard when activated. With Show virtual keyboard disabled, the Virtual keyboard will be hidden when activated. By doing this, you can save some screen space but still play and record notes with your computer keyboard.

You can check or change the shortcut template to better suit your workflow by clicking on the current template, which is Soundation by default.

Then you’ll be able to change the template from the top. You can choose between Soundation, Ableton, and Logic. Soundation is the most optimized template. If you make music in Ableton Live or Logic Pro and use their shortcuts, you might prefer to change to those templates. The shortcuts in Soundation will then be more similar to what you’re used to. Keep in mind that Soundation might not have every equivalent feature and some shortcuts are not possible in the browser.
