Lesson 1: Introduction to Digital Audio Workstations

Objective: Students will understand the basics of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and navigate Soundation. Materials: Computers with internet access, Soundation accounts, and speakers.

Activities:

    Introduction (10 mins):
    • A brief overview of what a DAW is and its role in music production.
    • Introduce Soundation as an example of a cloud-based DAW.

    Soundation tour (15 mins):
    • Walkthrough of Soundation's interface: channels, timeline, toolbar, and sound library.
    • Explain different features like instruments, effects, and audio loops.
  3. 3
    Basic navigation exercise (25 mins):
    • Students explore the interface by following guided instructions (e.g., creating a new project, adding an audio channel, and inserting a loop).
  4. 4
    Discussion (10 mins):
    • Recap key features and ask students what they found most interesting or challenging.

Assignment:

Create a simple project with at least three tracks using different audio loops from the library.
