How to use channel strips
The channel strips in Soundation work like a mixer where you can control the playback of each channel separately. They also allow you to keep organized, route effects, and select automation parameters.
Add channels
Add a channel by clicking + Add channel or right-clicking and choosing an Audio channel, Instrument channel, or FX channel.
- Audio channels are used for recording audio, audio loops and samples.
- FX channels are used for routing signals through audio effects by using sends.
Delete channels
Delete a channel by selecting it and hitting delete/backspace or by right-clicking and choosing Delete channel.
Duplicate channels
Clone a channel by right-clicking on it and choosing Clone channel or Clone channel and content, to also get the clips of the channel. You can also use the ctrl/cmd + D shortcut.
Move channels
Rearrange the order of the channels by dragging them up or down.
Rename channels
Keep your song organized by renaming the channels. Double-click on the name and type in the new name. When you’re done, hit enter or click elsewhere.
Solo and mute
The Solo (S) button enables you to only hear specific channels. Activate it on one or more channels, and you will only hear those channels. All other channels will be silent.
The Mute (M) button has the opposite effect. Activate it on one or more channels, and those channels will be silenced. You will still be able to hear all the other channels.
The Solo and Mute buttons can be used when mixing and arranging to focus on specific sounds or to hear what it sounds like with or without certain elements.
Volume
Control the loudness of each channel with the Volume fader. Getting the volumes of all channels to sound balanced is crucial for a good mix.
Pan
Panning controls the stereo position of a channel. By turning the Pan knob, you can make it sound like the source is coming from the center, the left or the right.
Automation
Automation lets you change the channel controls, effects, and instrument parameters over time. Click the drop-down to show the list of available parameters.
